The most used operating systems

The invention of the first operating system is by Gary Kindall, (1942-1994), however, it is attributed to Bill Gates. Kindall was a doctor of computer science and created the first operating system for personal computers, the CP/M.

All operating systems use a graphical user interface, that is, what allows you to use the mouse to click on icons and buttons, or interact with any other element to execute actions or tasks. This is how we tell the computer what to do.

The most important operating systems in the world:

  • Windows.
  • Linux.
  • iOS.
  • Chrome OS.

The operating system has three essential components or software packages that allow interaction with the hardware:

Microsoft Windows

It was developed in the 1980s. Its most recent versions are Windows 11, Windows 10; Windows 8, created in the year 2012; Windows 7, in 2009; and Windows Vista, created in 2007.Windows viene instalado, por defecto, en la mayoría de los computadores nuevos.

Mac OS X

It is the operating system created by Apple Inc. and is installed on all its computers. The most recent versions are: Monterrey, BigSur and Catalina; and some, a little older, are: Mojave, HighSierra, Sierra.

Linux Ubuntu

It is an open source operating system. This means that it can be modified and distributed by anyone around the world. This is one of its advantages, since you do not have to pay for it and you can choose between the different versions that exist.

Chrome OS.

They run Chrome OS, which has cloud storage, the best elements of Google built in, and multiple levels of security.

FreeBSD.

Open source operating system for computers based on the x86, Intel 80386, Intel 80486, and Pentium architecture CPUs. It currently runs on eleven different architectures including Alpha, AMD64, IA-64, MIPS, PowerPC, and UltraSPARC.

OpenBSD.

Complete, free, cross-platform Unix-like operating system based on BSD. According to its website, it seeks to emphasize: "portability, standardization, correctness, proactive security, and integrated cryptography."

Android-x86 (GNU/Linux)

Was an unofficial initiative for Google's Android mobile operating system to run on devices with x86 processors from AMD and Intel, instead of ARM RISC chips

Solaris

Unix-like operating system developed since 1992 initially by Sun Microsystems and currently owned by Oracle Corporation after its acquisition of Sun. Successor of SunOS, it is a system officially certified as a version of UNIX.
